This research project aims to treat accessibility as integral not optional, or extra. One of our aims is to explore how tactile experience can be stimulated through audio description, and on this page we seek to create a repository of audio descriptions of artworks and objects. The descriptions consider the tactile and auditory qualities of the objects and materials, and seek to [re]establish an equality of sensory experience in an oculocentric world.
We welcome audio descriptions of art, design, or craft objects or their materials, which speak to these aims. We also welcome criticism and advice on making our site and our events more accessible.
The following audio descriptions were produced as part of the research day ‘Sensing Art: Touch and Object-Based Research’ in April 2021.
